MICHAEL CARPENTER & THE CUBAN HEELS + THE BOB CORBETT BAND + AMBER RAE SLADE AND THE MIGHTY BIG NOISE + NOT GOOD WITH HORSES
Michael Carpenter & The Cuban Heels Sydney based producer/singer-songwriter guy Michael Carpenter was reminded recently that he use to have an alt.country type band. With this band, The Cuban Heels, he recorded 4 albums over a 2 year period, and after building up good momentum, they just stopped. So, reminded of how good they were, Carpenter has gotten the band back together, as they launch into the next chapter of their career. Inspired by Steve Earle, Buddy Miller, Tom Petty and Mike Nesmith, among others, this deeply experienced 5 piece band, whose members have worked with Russell Morris, Perry Keyes, Jason Walker and many, many others, bring an accomplished mix of Americana tinged originals combined with a stunning variety of covers. There’s even the promise of new material as they prepare to record their new album in August.
The Bob Corbett Band 4-time Golden Guitar nominee and Toyota Star Maker winner (2012), Bob Corbett & his band burst out of the world of folk and alternative country music with a unique brand of songwriting and showmanship. He has entertained audiences across the length and breadth of Australia and North America; released six albums (2007 - 2015) including the brand new album “Roovolution”. Wherever The Bob Corbett Band performs an infectious joy engages audiences with heartfelt songs, toe-tapping tunes, spontaneous antics, a boot full of instruments, and a musical journey that travels from the towns and cities of Australia to the U.S. Appalachians, all the way to the Scottish Highlands.Bob’s onstage presence and award winning songs are supported by Sue Carson’s warm fiddle and operatic vocal abilities, two times Australian Flat-Picking Guitar champion Robbie Long, and Dave Carter’s consummate, if comic instrument juggling, from bass to banjo to bagpipes!
Amber Rae Slade and The Mighty Big Noise Born in Detroit, Michigan to a diversely musical family, and raised throughout the United States, Amber Rae Slade’s introduction to music came early. From her first visit to Nahville, a place she would for years hang her hat, Amber found her musical home and heritage. She delved deep into the music of her idols such as Bob Dylan, Robert Johnson, and Leadbelly (to name a few) and through their sound, discovered her own. Currently halfway through the recording of her debut album, Amber and husband, Matt Fell have created a live performance far from the standard acoustic, two guitars, two singers setup. Through the use of down and dirty baritone guitars, looping, and an array of percussion and drums, the music coming through the speakers sounds like the work of a band rather than duo. Amber has already secured some major supports slots in Sydney and Tamworth and her music is fast gaining the attention of the music industry."
Not Good With Horses Not Good With Horses play ragged Americana style country, folk, and bluegrass with a bittersweet edge. Featuring the captivating vocals of Brielle Davis, influence is drawn from the likes of Paul Kelly, Gillian Welch & Justin Townes Earle. NGWH have a sound that is at once spare and 'stripped back', yet dripping with swing and stagger. The rhythm section, consisting of upright bass and a snare drum, provides a tight and solid foundation for the dual electric guitars and banjo, and the sensual husky tone of Brielle Davis's voice.
