Founding member of iconic New Zealand bands The Mutton Birds, The Front Lawn and Blam, Blam, Blam, returns to Australia with his acclaimed new solo album "Lucky Stars".
McGlashan has performed and worked with Crowded House, Paul Kelly, Johnny Marr, Wilco, members of Radiohead and has scored feature films including Jane Campion's "An Angel At My Table". A master songwriter, he has five entries in APRA’s "100 Best NZ Songs of All Time" and two Silver Scroll wins for “Anchor Me” and “Bathe In The River”.
McGlashan started the raw material for this new album at a small beach house on the Thames Estuary, then realised the songs with guitarist Tom Rodwell in Neil Finn's writing room at Roundhead Studio, Auckland. He produced "Lucky Stars" with former Mutton Birds bandmate David Long, and enlisted former Seven Sisters and current Phoenix Foundation drummer Chris O’Connor. The results are stunning: a rich collection of highly personal songs exploring love, regret and mortality - emotionally direct, infused with optimism and joy.
"An absolute pleasure. ... rich, perfectly measured. Reflections on love and mortality are dreamy, cool and literate. ...a tonic for racing minds." ★★★★½
~ SMH / The Age
"... a masterclass in pop craft: a bridge across six years of contemplation... McGlashan's disarming chord movements are Finnishly alluring, but there's an inner world all his own." ★★★★½
~ Rolling Stone (Australia)
