Avalon Emerson is a producer and DJ based in San Francisco. Though she currently spends her days working as a software engineer (and previously paid the bills as a fashion photographer), it's her talent for music making that caught the attention of the ICEE HOT crew. Granted, Avalon has pretty much been a regular on the ICEE HOT dancefloor since the party began, although her involvement in the city's club scene certainly didn't stop there. Some of her first DJ gigs took place at clandestine warehouse parties—which Avalon herself often had a hand in throwing—and she's recently started up a new monthly called Play It Cool with a few of her closest confidantes.
Pressure / Quoi!" was a storming call to arms that came from deep within the San Francisco warehouse party scene. That record, released on Icee Hot in 2014, was the inaugural 12" debut of Avalon Emerson, a DJ and producer who has since quickly become a name to watch in electronic dance music. Her production style is as ecclectic as her DJ sets, which omnivorously drift between the twin poles of passionate American house and cool European techno while incorporating the disparate aspects of break-laden rave, '80s pop, Italo, and playful Belgian new beat.
Now residing in Berlin, she's since found a musical home for her sound with Spring Theory, a label based jointly in San Francisco and Paris, which has released her acclaimed sophomore record "Church of SoMa" and her forthcoming single "Let Me Love & Steal."
Though she's a young talent, her original works and remixes have been recognized as a vital new voice in dance music by Resident Advisor, XLR8R, SPEX, Mixmag, DE: Bug, and NPR's All Songs Considered. A rare talent on the turntables, she plays longform sets — with portable isolator in tow — that are rooted in the explosiveness and narrative cohesion of old-school American DJing.
