The Flying Duck presents a night of beautiful cosmic music from Colorado, Glasgow and Outer Space.
The Space Lady
The "outsider musician" label was created with her: Susan Dietrich, better known as The Space Lady, possibly the best known synonymous and feminine to Moondog.
In the 1980s and 1990s, Susan was a street musician in Boston, Massachusetts and San Francisco, first playing accordion to accompany her gentle soprano voice. Wearing a silver plastic helmet with white wings and a flashing red light on top (which she performs in to this day), and playing haunting ethereal covers of rock n roll classics, Susan got the name "The Space Lady" from fans and from a newspaper contest. She upgraded from accordion in 1983 to the then-new Casiotone MT-40 battery-operated keyboard, played through a battery-operated amp
Retiring from music in 2000, Susan left San Francisco, and returned to Colorado, to care for her aging parents. Her involvement with music narrowed to selling the odd CD ("The Space Lady Live in San Francisco") of recordings she'd made on a cassette recorder in 1990, and later digitized. But a year later, music historian Irwin Chusid released his book and CD-compilation paean to 'Outsider Music,' entitled, "Songs in the Key of Z." The Vol. II CD included TSL's cover of "I Had Too Much to Dream Last Night" (by Annette Tucker/ Nancie Mantz). Unknown to Susan, this led to increased interest in The Space Lady's whereabouts and availability, fueled further by internet-bootlegged copies of her CD.
Since coming out of retirement in 20014 and releasing 'The Space Lady's Greatest Hits' on Night School Records Susan has won the hearts of Music lovers all over the planet, completing numerous world tours. Last year saw the release of a split EP with Burnt Ones, 'The Greatest Hits LP will now be repressed and there will be a new record out later this year..
Lo Kindre
Lo kindre is the Cosmic Dub alias of solo musician Daniel Magee who's debut EP was released on Optimo Music in April 2017. His one man live set is a psychedelic concotion of looped samples, deep basslines and dubbed out synths.
kelora
Kelora self released their debut EP 'BOY' in October last year, since then they've played a string of unique self curated shows around Glasgow and beyond. They make haunting and beautiful music that combines contemporary electronic production with medieval influences.
