$2 per ticket or $20 per book
HOW A CALCUTTA WORKS
1. Calcutta tickets are sold until the nominated time like any other Raffle with the sales going into the Calcutta Prize Pool
2. A raffle is conducted drawing a winner’s ticket number from the Calcutta tickets
3. A Horse competing in the Melbourne Cup, is then drawn and allocated to the winning Calcutta ticket/winner
4. This process is repeated until all Horses are allocated
5. Then the Calcutta auction commences where all the Horses in the race are sold to the highest bidder
6. The original winners (drawn from Calcutta tickets) of the Horses receive 50% of the purchase price for their horse, with the other 50% being added to the Calcutta Prize Pool
7. Winners can purchase their own Horse for only 50% of the purchase price, thus forfeiting their winners payment
8. Once all of the Horses have been sold at Auction the Calcutta Prize Pool has been set
9. The Owner of the Horse that Wins the Melbourne Cup will receive 70% of the Calcutta Prize Pool, 2nd place receives 20% of the Prize Pool, and 3rd place receives 10% of the Prize Pool
