Originaire de Suisse, la chanteuse et compositrice Helena Allan trace un chemin à elle dans le jazz acoustique d’aujourd’hui en alliant ses influences musicales européennes à l’héritage afro-américain qui lui est précieux. Véritable styliste du son elle prouve que l’art du jazz vocal n’en a pas fini d’évoluer.

Elle est entourée d’un duo remarquable composé du pianiste Jérôme Beaulieu (Révélation Jazz Radio-Canada 2013, avec son trio) et du contrebassiste Olivier Babaz.

Au programme : des compositions originales, notamment sur des poèmes de Maya Angelou, des pièces d’Elisabeth Kontomanou et Carmen Lundy, la redécouverte de pièces de Herbie Hancock, Bobby Hutcherson, Thelonius Monk et même des pièces de l’ère disco qu’ils abordent comme les standards de demain...

A native of Switzerland, singer and composer Helena Allan is blazing a trail into contemporary acoustic jazz by blending her European musical influences with the Afro-American heritage that is so dear to her. A true sound stylist, she is living proof that the art of vocal jazz continues to evolve.

She is accompanied by a remarkable duo that includes pianist Jérôme Beaulieu (Révélation de Radio-Canada/Jazz, 2013) and Olivier Babaz (double bass).

On the program: Allan’s original compositions, particularly those based on the poetry of Maya Angelou, compositions by Carmen Lundy and Elisabeth Kontomanou, rediscovered works by Herbie Hancock and Bobby Hutcherson, Thelonius Monk and even works from the disco era, which the trio handles as the standards of tomorrow…
