Crackers Comedy downtown is very happy to have comedian Sid Davis back with us from Wednesday, Dec 3 - Saturday, Dec 6.
Sid Davis, born Christopher Davis, grew up in a small farm town near Dayton, Ohio. The youngest of 4 children, was declared a very smart child....on paper.mHis razor sharp wit made him a distraction in school classrooms.
After entering Ohio University's School of Communications, he was noticed and mentored by a professor; acclaimed television writer, Dr Melvin Helitzer; who referred to Sid as one of the best young writers he's worked with. Sid's initial job out of college was at a small radio station as a salesperson and a copywriter. Sid loved writing.
He hated selling.
One day he arrived home and told his wife that he had departed from his job, she informed him she was expecting their first child. According to Sid, “That situation is how guys become insurance agents.” Sid’s goal of making a living from his creativity had to be put on hold.
Sid despised being a salesperson; but was good at it. “I don't like selling any product or service I have no control over.”
He left the insurance business and began working in the airline industry as a baggage handler. He soon attended aviation tech school, working 16 hour days for two years, and eventually became a licensed airline mechanic in Charlotte, NC
Life changed for everyone after 9-11. The financially devastated airline industry resulted in Sid receiving an exit package of forced retirement. He used the time to take up stand-up comedy at Charlotte’s Comedy Zone. He also Joined Toastmasters and placed at the top of the North Carolina humor speaking contests for two consecutive years.
Recognized early on as a great writer, Sid slowly honed his stage presence to project his hilarious and unique comic style that includes versatility for all occasions.
He can switch a couple of things around and change his set from very clean, to PG to R. His versatility for audiences ranges from Churches, to clubs to cruise ships.
Sid was a huge hit at the 2012 San Luis Obispo Comedy Festival
and the audiences voted him into the festival's Best in Fest Showcase (Which he unfortunately had to miss because of travel arrangements).
Sid returned to the SLO festival in 2013. The audience once again voted him “Best in Fest” and he headlined the festival’s Best in Fest Showcase, which was broadcast live on the SIRUS Comedy Raw Dawg Channel.
AGAIN in 2014 the audiences of SLO voted Sid Best in Fest where he hosted the Sunday showcase in the 1500 seat Fremont Theater.
During his airline tenure at the Charlotte airport he penned, Space Available; a hilarious suspense story about an airline baggage handler that uses his free flying to track down a man who stole his identity.
"I based the characters on friends from the airport," Sid shares. I'm very proud of the story and hope to have it produced into a motion picture someday."
